Kazan – OIC Youth Capital. Organizing Committee meeting

A meeting of the Organizing Committee for preparation and holding the events planned to take place in Kazan as the OIC Youth Capital was held at the House of Government of the Republic of Tatarstan on 13 July. The meeting was chaired by Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic and Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision ‘Russia – Islamic World’.


The meeting discussed the plan of events for the year. Several of them have already been held, such as the inauguration ceremony for Kazan as the OIC Youth Capital and the Holy Quran recitation competition.


The next major event is planned for August. The Global Youth Summit will take place at the end of this month. It will be attended by 200 delegates from 50 countries, including OIC Ministers for Youth Affairs and Sports, OIC Ambassadors, Heads of international organizations and participants in the Global Forum of Young Diplomats.


In his speech at the meeting of the Organizing Committee, Rustam Minnikhanov noted: ‘This is a major international event, the main one within the framework of the OIC Youth Capital program. Therefore, it is important for us to hold it at a decent level. This summit should be regarded as a big significant federal project’.


A total of 10 international events are planned to be held in Kazan. They include the International Youth Festival of Muslim Modern Art, which will take place on 10-15 October. The aim of the festival is to identify and support creativity of original authors, performers and creative teams from Russian regions and OIC countries.


Kazan Federal University will host the International Youth Science Congress of OIC countries in early November.


Three events will take place in December: The Russian-Balkan Youth Forum, the International Youth Forum ‘Russia – Organization of Islamic Cooperation’ and the closing ceremony of the ‘Kazan – OIC Youth Capital’ program and the presentation of the ‘Leaders of OIC Countries’ International Award.


Timur Suleymanov, Minister for Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, spoke at the meeting. He told about the plans to make a documentary about the life of contemporary Muslim youth in Tatarstan.


As part of consolidating international cooperation, student exchanges between universities of Russia and OIC countries are reported to take place from August to November.
