Novosibirsk to Host Exhibition for Indonesia’s 80th Independence Anniversary

09 January

The Novosibirsk State Art Museum (NSAM) will launch the exhibition "Equator Necklace" in early 2025, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Indonesia and the 80th anniversary of Indonesia's independence. The event will feature the Indonesian Ambassador to Russia, according to the museum's press service.

The exhibition will showcase over 200 works by Russian artists who visited the Indonesian archipelago on creative missions over the past two decades. The collection includes paintings, graphics, ceramics, and decorative arts. Described as a trans-Asian cultural and educational project, it was organized in collaboration with the Russian Academy of Arts, according to NSAM director Ekaterina Boldyreva.

In February, the museum will also present "Repin, Shishkin, Aivazovsky, and Others: Masterpieces of Russian Painting," offering Novosibirsk residents and visitors a chance to explore works from the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum. Among the highlights is Ilya Repin’s “A Fisher Girl,” the most famous piece in the Irkutsk museum’s Russian art collection. Boldyreva noted that the Tretyakov Gallery once sought to exchange several of its works for this masterpiece.

Since 1982, NSAM has been housed in the former Sibrevkom building. Its collection includes over 12,000 pieces of Russian and Western European paintings, graphics, sculptures, and decorative art from the 16th to 21st centuries. The museum annually hosts around 80 exhibitions, featuring both classical and contemporary works from Russian and international collections.
