The reconstruction of the runway at Khmeimim has been completed, and the airbase in Syria is now capable of receiving all types of Russian military aircraft, including heavy class machines, the Defense Ministry reported.
The second runway became longer, it also completely replaced the surface and installed new lighting and radio equipment.
Recently three long-range Tu-22 bombers landed there for the first time. They arrived there to perform training missions and after that, they will return to Russia.
Khmeimim is located 25 kilometers south of Latakia, and since 2015, the airfield has been hosting the Russian Air Force group and the Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties.
