Kremlin reports disagreements between Russia and Turkey on Sochi Memorandum

22 November 2022

Russia and Turkey have certain nuances and disagreements in their approaches to the implementation of the Sochi Memorandum on Syria, but the friendly nature of the two countries' relations allows for open and constructive discussion, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

"There are certain nuances in the approaches of Russia and Turkey to the state of affairs in Syria and to whose obligations were not fulfilled under that Sochi Memorandum. These nuances and sometimes even disagreements were repeatedly discussed by the two presidents. And, thank God, the friendly and partnership nature of relations with Turkey allows us to openly and constructively discuss these disagreements," he said.

Earlier, Turkey's leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan had claimed that Turkey had carried out an air operation in Syria and Iraq due to Russia's "refusal" to fulfill its promises to withdraw Kurdish formations from the border of the republic.
