Palestine is the first in the Middle East to register the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V, the first batch of the vaccine will arrive in the country within a month, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) reports.

"The RDIF announces the registration of the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V  by the Ministry of Health of Palestine. The registration was carried out under an emergency use authorization without conducting additional clinical trials on the territory of the state," the fund reported.

Sputnik V has been previously registered in Argentina, Bolivia, Serbia and Algeria following a similar procedure.

Deliveries of Sputnik V to Palestine are scheduled for the first quarter of this year. The first batch of the vaccine will arrive in the country within a month. Deliveries will be provided through RDIF's international partners in India, China, South Korea and other countries.

"The high quality and efficacy of the Sputnik V vaccine are generating growing interest in it from an increasing number of countries. This is leading to an expansion of its registration, supply and production geography. We are happy that following Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa, Sputnik V will also be introduced in the Middle East. This will further unite our efforts to defeat the coronavirus infection as quickly as possible by providing access to an effective and safe vaccine to more countries and their people," Kirill Dmitriev, Director-General of RDIF, commented.
