Palestinian Ambassador to Russia links military activity in Gaza with elections in Israel

08 August 2022

Palestinian Ambassador to Moscow Abdel Hafiz Nofal linked the military activity around the Gaza Strip to the election campaign in Israel.

"This is an Israeli attack. They attacked the Gaza Strip without warning, nothing preceded it. We believe it is related to the elections in Israel," the head of the Palestinian diplomatic mission told TASS on Monday.

According to him, the situation on the ground has stabilized since the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but the situation is still fragile.

Asked whether the situation on the ground around the Gaza Strip has stabilized since the ceasefire announced the day before, the head of the Palestinian diplomatic mission answered positively. "So far the situation is calm, but we do not know how long it will last," he said.

Palestine appreciates Egyptian mediation efforts in achieving a truce around Gaza and notes their positive role in stabilizing the situation, Abdel Hafiz Nofal said.

"We appreciate Egypt's mediation efforts to stop the hostilities. Egypt has played a positive role, Qatar as well. President Mahmoud Abbas officially called the Egyptian leader and thanked him for the role Egypt played to stop this one-sided war," he said.
