09 March 2021

Russian President Vladimir Putin will promptly consider an appeal for help in treating Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his wife from a coronavirus infection if such a request is received,  Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, noting that he did not know whether such an appeal had been received.

"Russian specialists have tremendous experience, have gained tremendous experience in treating covid, and I have no doubt that if there are such requests, President Putin will of course consider them very promptly," the Kremlin spokesperson told reporters on Tuesday. "But so far I am not aware of anyone making an appeal," Peskov clarified.

"Of course, let's hope that President Assad and his wife will endure the disease in a mild form and acquire the necessary immunity," the Kremlin representative said.

Earlier, Bashar al-Assad and his wife, Asma, announced that they were under home quarantine after testing positive for the coronavirus. According to the office of the Syrian head of state, their condition is stable and they will perform their duties as usual during the home quarantine, which will last two to three weeks.
