Putin offers aid to Turkey and Syria to deal with earthquake aftermath

Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his condolences to Turkish and Syrian leaders Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad over the huge earthquake, which killed several hundred people and injured several thousand. The Russian leader assured that Moscow is ready to provide Ankara and Damascus with all necessary assistance.

 

"Dear Mr. President, Please accept deep condolences for the many human casualties and widespread destruction caused by the powerful earthquake in your country," the Kremlin said in a telegram of condolences to the Turkish president published on its website Monday.

 

Putin asked Erdogan to convey words of support and sincere sympathy to the families and friends of the victims and his wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. The Russian leader assured that Moscow is ready to provide necessary assistance in this regard.

 

In a telegram to the Syrian president, Putin also expressed his "most sincere condolences over the tragic consequences of the earthquake that occurred in northern Syria." "We share the sadness and pain of those who lost their relatives and loved ones and hope for a speedy recovery of all the victims," the Russian head of state added. Putin also noted Russia's readiness to provide necessary assistance to eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster.
