Russia and Syria believe that Kurdish authorities have lost control of the Al-Hawl camp, with terrorist influence on the ground growing. This was stated in a joint statement by Mikhail Mizintsev, head of Russia's National Defense Management Center, and Hussein Makhluf, Syria's Minister of Local Government.

"It is noted that the Kurdish authorities have actually lost control over the-Hawl camp in the Hasakeh province while the influence of the terrorist organization ISIS (the outdated name of the Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia - TASS) has increased on the ground," the statement reads.

As noted in the document, the situation in the camps is critical. "The inhabitants of the camp, first of all children, are being radicalized," Mizintsev and Makhluf said.

Russia and Syria believe that the leadership of all countries whose underage citizens are in Al-Hawl and other refugee camps in the northeast of the country must step up efforts to set up a process for their return home, as Russia is doing.

US influence

"At the same time, the US and its allies are preventing the stabilization of the country. Illegal anti-Syrian sanctions continue to suffocate the Arab republic," Mizintsev and Makhluf stressed.

In particular, the US and its allies are using financial and political leverage to pressure international organizations to turn a blind eye to the consequences of their sanctions on Syria and the violation of its sovereignty.

"We demand that the US side cease its destabilizing influence on the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic and strictly comply with international law and the principles of the United Nations," the statement stresses.
