Russian air defense assets repelled an attack on the Khmeimim airbase from the territory of the Idlib de-escalation zone by illegal armed groups. Rear Admiral Vyacheslav Sytnik, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, said.

"At 19:45 Moscow time on February 9, Russian anti-aircraft defense assets repelled an attack on the Khmeimim airbase using long-range multiple rocket launchers," Sytnik said during a briefing.

According to him, objective control means established that the shelling was carried out from the territory of the Idlib de-escalation zone, controlled by illegal armed groups. "There were no casualties or material damage. The Russian Khmeimim airbase is functioning as planned," he stressed.

As Sytnik specified, no shelling by illegal armed groups controlled by Turkey was registered during the day. In the Idlib de-escalation zone, 26 shellings by the terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra (activity banned in the Russian Federation) were recorded, including in Idlib, Latakia, Aleppo and Hama provinces.
