Russian Foreign Ministry commented on Islamist attack on civilians in Niger

The attack of extremists of the Boko Haram terrorist group on two populated areas in northwestern Niger is aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.


"Moscow strongly condemns the extremists' bloody foray aimed at destabilizing the situation in Niger, including in the context of preparations for the second round of presidential elections," the statement reads. - "We express our condolences to the leadership and the people of Niger for the many victims".


On Sunday, France-Presse news agency, citing local authorities, reported that more than 100 Islamists on motorcycles in two groups simultaneously attacked two villages in northwestern Niger. More than 100 people were killed in the attacks and 25 others were seriously wounded.
