Moscow maintains contacts on the issue of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement with all interested players, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.

"Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, a member of the quartet of international mediators on the Middle East settlement, in cooperation with regional and international structures, continues to seek a comprehensive and sustainable settlement in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions. They envisage the creation of two states, Palestine and Israel, coexisting in peace and security," Zakharova said. - "In addition, we are in contact with all interested players on a bilateral basis. In particular, this theme was touched upon during the phone conversation between the presidents and foreign ministers of Russia and Turkey, and is on the agenda of consultations with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who arrived in Moscow".

The diplomat also stressed that Moscow condemns attacks on civilians, regardless of their nationality and religion, and calls for restoring the status quo in Jerusalem and stopping Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Rocket attacks between Israel and the Gaza Strip have continued since Monday, following riots at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem that broke out in early May, where more than 700 people have been injured in recent days. The clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces were triggered by an Israeli court decision to seize houses in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood from Arab families who have lived there for more than half a century in favor of Jewish settlers on the grounds that the homes belonged to them before 1948.
