Schoolchildren from Syria will come to Russia at Shoigu's invitation

A Russian Air Force flight will deliver a group of Syrian children to Moscow at the invitation of Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergei Shoigu, the military ministry said in a statement on Thursday.


"Children from Syria will visit Russia at the invitation of Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergei Shoigu to familiarize themselves with the history, traditions, culture of our country and the sights of the Russian capital," the Russian Defense Ministry said.


A total of 46 schoolchildren from Damascus, Homs, Hama, Deraa and other provinces will come to Russia. Among them will be children of deceased Syrian servicemen and schoolchildren who lost relatives during the war against ISIS (activities are banned in Russia).


The program for Syrian schoolchildren will be held from August 12 to 17. The children will visit the Kremlin, the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 on Poklonnaya Hill, the Moscow Zoo, the planetarium and other cultural and historical Moscow objects. They will meet with representatives of "Unarmia" and the All-Russian public organization of veterans "Battle Brotherhood".


"One of the days the Syrian schoolchildren will spend in Kubinka near Moscow at the facilities of the cultural and educational center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the military and patriotic park of culture and leisure of the Russian Armed Forces "Patriot", where they will present the audience a concert program with the performance of songs in Russian," the department added.


Shoigu made the decision to invite Syrian children to Russia following the visit of a Russian interdepartmental delegation to the Syrian Arab Republic in July. The trip of Syrian children was organized with the support of the Moscow government, Rossotrudnichestvo, the All-Russian public organization of veterans "Battle Brotherhood" and Gazprombank JSC.
