SCO Secretary-General discusses Organization's role in the world with Lavrov

On March 16-17, during his working visit to Moscow, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Zhang Ming discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov the organization's role in the world's complex geopolitical situation. This is said in a statement of the Russian diplomatic mission.

 

Zhang Ming also held consultations with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko. "During the exchange of views they discussed key aspects of the association's activities, including the prospects for its improvement in the context of ongoing changes in world politics and economics. It was stressed that in the current difficult geopolitical conditions there is an increasing demand for the creative and stabilizing role of the SCO, which makes a noticeable contribution to the formation of a multipolar architecture of international relations," Smolensk Square pointed out.

 

It is noted that Lavrov and Zhang Ming discussed the procedural aspects of Iran and Belarus joining the organization, as well as the process of formalizing relations with new dialogue partners - Bahrain, Maldives, Myanmar, Kuwait and the UAE. "The progress of implementation of the decisions adopted at the SCO summit in Samarkand on September 16, 2022, the preparation for the upcoming meetings at the high and highest levels this year was considered. Particular attention is paid to the procedural aspects of Iran's and Belarus' accession to the organization, as well as the process of formalizing relations with the new dialogue partners (Bahrain, Maldives, Myanmar, Kuwait and the UAE)," reads the report.
