Western countries led by the United States have unleashed an unprincipled information war against Russia, claiming that they were the main contributors to the defeat of fascism. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said this on Tuesday during a conference call with the leadership of the Russian Armed Forces.
"Western countries led by the United States have unleashed an absolutely unprincipled information war against Russia. Our adversaries actively and shamelessly promote the lie that it is they who made the main contribution to the defeat of fascism and the end of World War II," Shoigu said before discussing the main military-political activities on the eve of the 78th anniversary of the Victory.
"This and any attempts to falsify the historical truth must end. We have no right to allow the lessons of the terrible tragedy, to which Nazism led humanity in the 20th century, to be twisted and forgotten," the minister stressed.
Shoigu noted that this should be the main focus of efforts of military authorities in preparation for the Victory Day celebrations. According to him, more than 43,000 events have been planned.
The head of the defense ministry pointed out that honoring veterans of the Great Patriotic War and participants of the special military operation and providing social support to their families will be an important part of the work. Shoigu added that there are already active train tours and excursions, and a series of teleconferences between servicemen and their relatives and friends is being prepared. Parcels, letters and congratulations are being delivered to military medical organizations.
