29 September 2020

The head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, said that "external players" should direct their efforts to resolve the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"All external players should now direct their efforts to resolve the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, and not engage in further fueling it. A new fire in Transcaucasia may have the most deplorable consequences for the entire regional security," Slutsky said.

He noted that the situation in Karabakh has no military solution. The parties to the conflict must exercise restraint.

"We are ready to act as a mediation mission to prevent further escalation," Slutsky said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

Earlier on Sunday, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that the Armenian armed forces fired at settlements on the contact line in Karabakh, according to these data, there are civilian deaths. It was noted that Karabakh "was subjected to air and missile attacks...", the Armenian side shot down two helicopters and three UAVs of Azerbaijan. Baku has denied this information.

Later, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that the Azerbaijani armed forces launched a counter-offensive operation along the entire contact line in Karabakh.
