Alexander Lavrentiev to lead Russian delegation at meeting on Syria in Kazakhstan

Russian President's Special Representative for the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentiev will head the Russian delegation at a meeting on Syria in the Astana format, official representative of Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry Aibek Smadiyarov said on Monday.


"The Russian delegation will be headed by Russian President's Special Representative for the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentiev," Smadiyarov said at a briefing.


He added that Turkey will be represented by Director of the Syrian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Selcuk Unal, and Iran by Senior Assistant to the Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Asghar Hadji. Deputy Foreign Minister Ayman Susan will head the Syrian delegation, and Ahmed Toma - the delegation of the Syrian armed opposition.


Representatives of the UN, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq will attend the event as observers.


On November 22-23, Astana will host the 19th International meeting on Syria in the Astana format.
