Ambassador Andrey Karlov was honored on Diplomat's Day in Ankara

Employees of Russian diplomatic missions honored Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov on Diplomat's Day, TASS reports.


Flowers were laid at the monument to Karlov, installed on the territory of the Russian embassy in Ankara. Ambassadors of several other countries attended the event.


Karlov was killed on December 19, 2016, while speaking at the opening of a photo exhibition in Ankara; the assailant, police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas, was liquidated. The Russian Foreign Ministry qualified the incident as an act of terrorism, and the Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article "act of international terrorism. The diplomat was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia. Hearings on the murder of Andrei Karlov continue in the second court of Ankara for especially grave crimes.
