The Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V has been registered in Bahrain, according to a report from the RDIF.

"The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announces the registration of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The registration was carried out within the framework of an emergency use authorization procedure without conducting additional clinical trials on the territory of the state,"  the report stated.

Bahrain became the 24th country in the world to approve the use of the Sputnik V vaccine, the fund adds. According to the Al Arabiya TV channel, the country has approved the use of the vaccine in emergency cases.

In late January, Bahraini authorities approved the use of a new coronavirus vaccine produced by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca in the country. Earlier last November, the Arab state had authorized the use of a drug from the Chinese company Sinopharm to vaccinate people who work closely with those infected with the coronavirus infection. In early December, the kingdom's authorities granted permission to use a vaccine produced by the US company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.

On December 25, the Bahraini Ministry of Health announced the start of a free vaccination campaign for Bahraini citizens and foreigners residing in the country.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health of Bahrain, since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, almost 100,000 cases of infection with coronavirus were identified and about 400 deaths were recorded.
