Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia and Turkey noted the urgency of further joint efforts on Syria

Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed the resolution of the crises in Libya and Syria at a meeting with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal in Moscow on Thursday. This was stated in a report of the Russian Foreign Ministry.


"In discussing the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, the relevance of further coordinated efforts of Russia and Turkey, including in the framework of the Astana process, to promote a comprehensive settlement on the basis of resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council and commitment to the principle of respect for the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria was noted," - the diplomatic mission reported.


The parties also noted the progress that had been made in the political, military and economic inter-Libyan negotiation tracks. "At the same time, the parties stressed the importance of the Libyan national dialogue under the auspices of the UN to be inclusive and based on the decisions of the Berlin International Conference and UN Security Council resolution 2510," the report said.


Onal, who visited Moscow on Thursday, previously headed the Turkish delegation at the talks on Syria and Libya, which were held in Moscow on August 31 and September 1, as well as at interdepartmental consultations on the settlement in Libya on July 21 and 22 in Ankara.
