Erdogan: Turkey and Russia will do everything possible to create a gas hub as soon as possible

18 November 2022

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in telephone talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday that Ankara and Moscow will carry out the necessary work to achieve common goals in the creation of a gas hub in the republic.

"President Erdogan expressed satisfaction with Russian President Putin's proposal to create a gas center in Turkey. President Erdogan said the teams would conduct the necessary technical, legal and commercial assessments to achieve common goals as soon as possible," the Turkish leader's office told reporters.

The idea of creating a hub in Turkey where the lost volume of transit through the Nord Stream can be redirected was expressed by the Russian president at Russian Energy Week. According to him, the idea is to build another gas pipeline system and create a hub in Turkey through which gas would be delivered to the third countries, first of all to European countries if they are interested in it.

This issue was discussed at Putin's meeting with Erdogan in Astana on October 13 in the margins of the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.
