The ceasefire took effect at 11:30 pm (local time) in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. Al Jazeera TV reported. According to its information, the truce was achieved thanks to Egyptian mediation efforts.

The leader of the radical Islamic Jihad group, Ziad al-Nakhala, said that "there are no secret clauses" in the agreement worked out. "The occupation authorities failed to impose their conditions on us," he stressed. - "The Palestinians have reached clear success in countering Israeli aggression."

Al-Nakhala confirmed that his organization agreed to the truce in exchange for an Egyptian mediator's promise to get Israel to release two captive Islamic Jihad commanders, Khalil Awawda and Bassem al-Saadi.

Minutes before the truce went into effect, the two sides exchanged fire. The Israeli Air Force attacked the villages of Hittin and Khan Yunis and the radicals fired several mortar rounds towards Israel.

The Israel defense forces launched Operation Breaking Dawn on Friday against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group. Artillery and the air force attacked the radicals' positions, offices, underground weapons factories and warehouses. The Palestinians responded by firing about a thousand rockets and missiles into Israeli territory.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, the number of victims of the Israeli attacks on Sunday had reached 43 by the end of the day, including 15 children and four women, and 311 people were wounded.
