Lavrov: Russia is open to organizing a meeting between the leaders of Israel and Palestine as soon as possible

Moscow is open to organizing a meeting between Israeli and Palestinian leaders to discuss problems of the Middle East settlement in the near future, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday at the Primakov Readings forum.

Lavrov said Russia would continue to promote a solution to "such seemingly unsolvable problems as the Middle East settlement." "We are actively seeking an early resumption of the work of the " quartet " of international mediators. We are open to organizing a meeting of Israeli and Palestinian leaders in Moscow as soon as possible," he said.

However, as the Russian Foreign Minister noted, it is necessary to wait for the results of internal political processes in Israel.

"But in any case, to our great regret, our repeated reminders of many years that the concept of normalization of relations between Israel and Arabs cannot be promoted at the expense of the Palestinian problem, they were ignored. I think this is one of the most serious problems that will only get worse," the Minister stressed.
