Matviyenko Congratulates Tajik Parliament Speaker on Independence Day

09 September

Federation Council Chair Valentina Matviyenko sent greetings to Rustam Emomali, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli (the National Council of the Supreme Assembly) of Tajikistan, on the country’s Independence Day.

“On behalf of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, I congratulate you and all members of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Independence Day,” she wrote.

The upper house speaker noted that in the years since Tajikistan gained independence, the republic has carried out political, economic, and social reforms that today allow the state to move confidently along the path of peace and stability, raise living standards, and preserve centuries-old historical and national traditions.

Matviyenko stressed that the friendly, allied ties between Russia and Tajikistan are among the key factors ensuring regional security and a foundation for joint projects across multiple fields.

“In the Federation Council, we value the trust-based nature of ties between our countries’ legislatures. Lawmakers have opportunities to actively exchange views on current issues on the bilateral and international agendas. Undoubtedly, this level of interaction helps deepen not only the partnership between Russia and Tajikistan, but also integration processes across the CIS,” Matviyenko wrote.

Exactly 34 years ago, on September 9, 1991, the Supreme Soviet of Tajikistan proclaimed the country’s state independence.
