Media: Iran launched missile attack on Iraqi Kurdistan

21 November 2022

The Iranian Armed Forces have carried out another missile strike on Iraqi Kurdistan Region. This was reported on Monday by the INA agency, citing local sources.

The targets of the attack were the headquarters of the Kurdish parties in the provinces of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, which support the anti-government demonstrations in Iran.

According to Shafaq News, Iranian troops also shelled a refugee camp in the city of Bahirka. Several people were killed in the shelling. It is reported that air-raid sirens went off in the building of the US consulate in Erbil.

On September 24th, Iranian military forces began striking Kurdish formations based in Iraq. As the IRNA agency stated, the reason for the operation was the attempts of these forces to destabilize the situation in the Islamic Republic. On October 8, the command of the Army of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it would continue to attack the separatist bases in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and also demanded from Baghdad to "put an end to the atrocities of the anti-Iranian groups".
