Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with his Kazakh counterpart Askar Mamin suggested instructing the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation to prepare proposals for new joint investment projects between the two countries.

Mishustin named such sectors as mining, energy, including renewable energy, peaceful atom, and information technology as promising areas for increasing trade volumes. "And here I would suggest instructing the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation to prepare specific proposals," he said.

According to Mishustin, trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan is developing at a good pace: in the first half of the year the mutual trade turnover grew by 34% to about $12 billion. "According to forecasts, by the end of the year this figure should reach about $20 billion, which is not bad," added the Russian prime minister.

"Following the results of the negotiations, we will sign a number of important documents, which provide for the development of cooperation in mining, chemical industry, railway transport, joint research and a number of other projects. I am sure that these agreements will give a new impetus to strengthening fraternal relations between Russia and Kazakhstan," Mishustin said.

He reminded that Russia and Kazakhstan are fighting coronavirus infection together. "Joint production of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V at the Karaganda pharmaceutical plant has been established. Five million doses of the vaccine have already been produced since the beginning of the year. I am sure that mass vaccination of the population will enable us to cope with the coronavirus infection in our countries," the head of the Russian cabinet of ministers added.

Mishustin also thanked Mamin for the attentive attitude of the Kazakh authorities to the Russian language, which has official status in Kazakhstan and is a key tool for interstate and international communication. The head of the Russian cabinet noted that each visit to Kazakhstan has a special meaning for him. Russia, in his words, cherishes its brotherly relations with Kazakhstan and is interested in taking this cooperation to a higher level, filling it with new projects. "I am ready to discuss with you, as well as with the president of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the first president of the republic Nursultan Nazarbayev the most important tasks of joint work of the governments of Russia and Kazakhstan," Mishustin said.
