UNESCO's decision to hold an annual International Islamic Art Day is recognition of its contribution to world civilization.Mounir Bouchenaki, Special Advisor to the Director-General of the International Research Centre for the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), ICOMOS expert, head of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage, said at the plenary session of the Forum "Islam in a Multicultural World," which is taking place today in Kazan.
He recalled that Bahrain initiated the celebration of the International Day of Islamic Art on November 18 in 2018. During the regular session of UNESCO, the initiative was supported, which, according to Bouchenaki, is a recognition of the contribution of Islamic art to the development of world civilization and a celebration of cultural diversity.
Because of the pandemic, most of the activities planned by UNESCO were cancelled. The main celebrations took place at the National Museum of Bahrain.
"Islamic art is a constantly evolving phenomenon that is not limited to geography. It has absorbed all the different trends of peoples united by the Islamic religion," said the expert, stressing that Islam welcomes and celebrates diversity, understanding and tolerance.
