Putin held talks with Iranian President

Tehran wants relations with Moscow to be comprehensive and stable, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said.


"Regarding relations with the friendly Russian Federation, we want these relations to be stable and comprehensive," Raisi said at the start of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the Iranian president, the IRI has no restrictions on the development of relations with friendly Russia, the relations between the two countries will be strategic.

 

 

He also thanked Russia for helping Iran become a full-fledged member of the SCO.


Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi in Moscow that trade between the two countries increased by more than 38 percent last year despite the coronavirus pandemic.


"I want to note that despite the pandemic, the year before last we had some small but still growth in trade turnover - over 6%. And last year there was more than 38 percent growth," Putin said.

 

 

The talks between the presidents took place around the oval table. During the conversation, Putin also thanked his counterpart for his visit to Moscow. "I want to thank you for taking the time to come to Moscow in these difficult conditions. Immediately after your inauguration, we have been in constant contact with you. But of course, neither video conferences nor phone calls can replace personal communication," Putin said.

 

 

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier noted that Raisi's visit to Russia would be very important, and it is necessary to conduct "an inventory of relations taking into account changes in Iran's leadership." He stressed that the sides will also discuss the economic agenda, international politics, work in the UN and other international organizations.
