07 June 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan pointed out that Kiev, at the instigation of the West, continues to escalate the situation and uses terrorist methods, another example of which is the strike on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. This was reported by the Kremlin press service after the conversation.

They noted that the leaders of Russia and Turkey exchanged views on the situation around Ukraine.

"Vladimir Putin stated that the Kiev authorities, at the instigation of their Western handlers, are still making a dangerous bet on escalating hostilities, committing war crimes, openly using terrorist methods, and organizing sabotage on Russian territory. A clear example of this is the barbaric action to destroy the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant in the Kherson region, which led to a large-scale environmental and humanitarian disaster," reads the report.

Personal dialogue and bilateral cooperation

The parties expressed confidence in the development of further multifaceted partnership and noted the commitment to consistent implementation of joint projects in various spheres.

"The sides continued discussing topical issues of Russian-Turkish cooperation. Both sides expressed confidence that the multidimensional and mutually beneficial partnership in various fields will continue to develop dynamically. In this context, a commitment to consistent implementation of joint projects in energy, trade and tourism was noted," the statement said.

It is also noted that the conversation also "addressed a number of international topics, including further coordination in multilateral organizations."

The heads of states agreed to regularly continue personal dialogue.

The report also says that "the Russian president once again congratulated his Turkish colleague on officially assuming office."

Erdogan was recognized as the winner of the presidential election in the second round of voting on May 28 with 52.18% of the votes. He took the oath in parliament and took office on June 3.
