Russia has always supported the indisputable right of Palestinians to live a decent life in an independent state, and is committed to a comprehensive and just resolution of the Palestinian problem on a universally recognized international legal basis. This is stated in the congratulatory telegram of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

The text of the telegram was read at an online conference Monday by Alexei Skosyrev, Deputy Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Dear Mr. President, please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a member of the Middle East Quartet of international mediators, Russia has always supported the realization of the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians, including the indisputable right to a decent life in an independent state, coexisting in peace and security with its neighbors," stressed the Russian President. - "I would like to confirm our principled position in favor of a comprehensive, fair and long-term solution to the Palestinian problem on a universally recognized international legal basis, which should result in the creation of a viable state of Palestine within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital".

Putin said that Russia is committed to close cooperation with the Palestinian leadership "in the interests of resuming direct Palestinian-Israeli dialogue and achieving national self-determination of the Palestinian people."

The Russian leader pointed out that the two countries are traditionally linked by strong and sincere ties of friendship. "We see our task as facilitating the progressive development of bilateral cooperation, assisting the establishment of Palestinian statehood and strengthening its economy," he added, wishing Abbas good health and happiness, and to the friendly Palestinian people - well-being and prosperity in their native land.

In 1977, the UN General Assembly decided to observe November 29 annually as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
