14 September 2021

Russian president Vladimir Putin's meeting with Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi has been postponed "until the next opportunity" due to the Russian leader's self-isolation, the head of state's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on Tuesday.

"No, bilateral meetings will not be held by conference call. It is postponed until the next opportunity," Peskov said.

Earlier, Iranian ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali told reporters on the sidelines of the VI Caspian media forum that Raisi and Putin may meet on the sidelines of the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) summit in Dushanbe.

At the same time, it became known on Tuesday that the Russian president decided to self-isolate after contact with the covid case. As the Kremlin press service specified, in view of this, Putin will take part in the CSTO Collective security council session in Dushanbe this week, the meeting of the SCO Council of heads of state and the joint meeting of the CSTO and SCO heads of state via video-conferencing.
