Russia would like relations between Moscow and Abu Dhabi to deepen and develop in an upward direction, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said on Monday at a reception marking the 50th anniversary of the UAE's establishment and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and Russia.

"I would like our relations to develop upward, so that nothing will cloud them, so that our mutual understanding will deepen, so that we can visit each other more often and more," Pankin said.

He said 50 years is a serious time to test one state's relationship with another, but 50 years is "nothing for the long future path of a state like the UAE." "We see how in 50 years the United Arab Emirates has come to this first, small and far from the last anniversary on this long journey with a huge baggage of technology, economic, cultural. The development is impressive, the development is overwhelming," he added.

Pankin emphasized that during these years, respect, mutual understanding and close cooperation have always prevailed in the relations of the two countries, which are going up higher and higher. The deputy foreign minister noted that the very warm and close relations between the leadership of the two countries and the rich nature of business and departmental relations in various spheres are a solid foundation for cooperation between Moscow and Abu Dhabi.

"We can only rejoice at how the United Arab Emirates is confidently showing the brightest examples in the technological and modernization plan," the deputy foreign minister said. He also reminded that the UAE is a favorite destination for Russian tourists.

Diplomatic relations between the USSR and the UAE were established on December 8, 1971. The USSR embassy in Abu Dhabi was opened in 1986 and the UAE embassy in Moscow in 1987. In December 1991, the UAE recognized the Russian Federation as the legal successor of the USSR.
