Russia to discuss with ICRC delegation in Sochi the use of coronavirus vaccines in Syria

16 February 2021

The Russian delegation will discuss with the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the Astana format international meeting on the Syrian settlement in Sochi the use of Russian vaccines against coronavirus in Syria, Alexander Lavrentyev, the Russian President's Special Representative for Syria, told reporters on Tuesday.

"We will definitely raise this issue [of the use of Russian vaccines], Sputnik V in particular. Especially since we are ready to support this issue," he said.

According to Lavrentyev, Russia is in favor of establishing vaccine supplies in the country to vaccinate refugees, but this is an "international-sounding" issue".

The Russian Federation, he added, hopes to be able to supply Syria with the vaccine as soon as it is registered in the Arab republic.
