Russia, Turkey, Iran to hold next round of talks on Syria in 2023

The guarantor countries of the Astana process have agreed to hold the next international meeting on Syria in the Astana format in the first half of 2023, according to a trilateral joint statement following the negotiations on Wednesday.


"We agreed to hold the 20th international meeting on Syria in Astana in the first half of 2023. [We] noted the agreement enshrined in the final statement of the July 19, 2022, trilateral summit to organize the next summit in the Russian Federation," the document reads.


The Astana troika also congratulated the Kazakh side on successfully holding the November 20 presidential election and expressed sincere gratitude to the republic's authorities for holding the 19th international meeting on Syria in Astana.


"We appreciated the attendance of Jordanian, Iraqi and Lebanese delegations as observers of the Astana format, as well as representatives of the UN and ICRC," the statement reads.
