Russian MFA: quartet meeting on Syria postponed due to some partners' unpreparedness

20 March 2023

The meeting of representatives of the foreign ministries of Russia, Turkey, Syria, and Iran has been postponed not at Moscow's request, but due to some partners not being ready for it, Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told TASS on Monday.

"No date has been set, it's true. But this is not at our request but rather because some of our partners are unprepared. That is why the meeting has been postponed for now. But I hope it will happen soon," Bogdanov said.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the date of the four-party meeting of foreign ministers on Syria was postponed at Russia's request.

The deputy foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Syria, and Turkey were to meet in Moscow in March to discuss preparations for a ministerial meeting on normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus.
