Russian military suspended escorting vehicles on the highway in Syria

Russian military policemen have temporarily stopped escorting civilian cars on the M4 highway in Syria due to the escalation of the situation in the area of Ayn Issa,  Rear Admiral Vyacheslav Sytnik, the deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, said at a briefing.


"Due to the escalation of the situation, the Russian military police stopped escorting civilian vehicles on the section of the M4 Tall Tamr - Ayn Issa highway. It will be resumed as the situation is resolved," Sytnik noted.


According to the Rear Admiral, Russian military police units are carrying out tasks at observation posts in Raqqa province together with Syrian soldiers.


On Sunday, the Center reported the deployment of military police units to the area of the Syrian settlement of Ayn Issa to stabilize the situation. According to Sytnik, earlier in talks with the Turkish side, agreements were reached on the deployment of joint Russian-Syrian posts due to the unstable situation in the area.
