Turkey says Ankara and Moscow can solve global problems together

01 December 2021

Turkey and Russia could become an example of inter-parliamentary cooperation for the sake of solving global issues. The deputy chairman of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Turkey, Binali Yildirim, said on Wednesday at an international inter-party video conference on "Global Challenges of the 21st Century: the Inter-Party Dimension.

"Our party and United Russia can work together to create an effective multipolar world. Turkey and Russia are not only neighbors, but also two regional world powers, and our dialogue and cooperation play an important role for bilateral relations as well as for addressing global challenges. I believe that international problems can be solved through inter-parliamentary cooperation. We can lead the way and set an example of such inter-parliamentary partnership," he said.

Yildirim noted that "dialogue and cooperation between Turkey and Russia contribute to regional stability, and the cooperation in the Transcaucasus and in Syria are proof of that."

"On the bilateral level, we can get concrete results in energy, trade, economy and tourism. The Turkish Stream pipeline and the Akkuyu nuclear power plant are examples of this," he said. The AKP deputy chairman said that "the republic will organize the second Diplomatic Forum in Antalya on March 11, 2022, and hopes to see the Russian side there."

Yildirim congratulated United Russia on the party's 20th anniversary. " As it happens, our party was also founded in 2001, at the beginning of the 21st century. We have witnessed many unpredictable events in the region and in the international arena. The 21st century is an era of change and complex challenges that are based on socio-economic aspects. These are inequality, terrorism, migration, climate change, the weakening of international organizations, and the erosion of the multipolar system," he noted.

Yildirim also expressed his condolences for the tragedy at the Listvyazhnaya mine. "I would like to send condolences on the tragedy in Kuzbass. We mourn the deaths of the miners," he said. The accident at Listvyazhnaya mine in the Belovski district of Kuzbass happened in the morning of November 25. As a result of the incident, 51 people died, including five mine rescuers.
