Brigadier General of the Turkish armed forces Sezgin Erdogan died in Idlib, Syria, after a sudden illness, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic reported.

"Brigadier General Sezgin Erdogan felt ill during his stay in the area of operation in Idlib on September 9. He was immediately hospitalized, but despite the best efforts of doctors, it was not possible to save him, " the Turkish Defense Ministry said.

Previously, the General headed the special forces training center in Egirdir, after which he was appointed commander of the 47th brigade of the Turkish ground forces.

Idlib is the only region of Syria, a significant part of which still remains in the hands of gangs. In 2017, a Northern de-escalation zone was created there, where extremists who refused to lay down their weapons in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta and the southern regions of the country moved. In the province, there are observation posts of the Turkish army, and in accordance with the agreements between presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan made on March 5, the military of the two countries carried out in Idlib joint patrols.
