18 April 2019

Despite the almost complete defeat in Syria and Iraq, international terrorist groups still pose a serious threat. The Director of the FSB of the Russian Federation Alexander Bortnikov said about this, speaking at the Conference on combating international terrorism.

«Despite tangible casualties in Syria and Iraq, the Islamic State, Al-Qaeda (both groups in Russia are prohibited) and related with them armed terrorist groups continue to pose a serious threat, managing to organize their forces according to the network principle», Bortnikov noted, in particular.

According to Bortnikov, now the terrorists are actively «spreading outside the Middle East to Europe, Central and Southeast Asia, as well as deep into the African continent.
