The Palestinian issue will remain at the center of attention of the Arab League, which will hold its next summit this year, Arab League Deputy Secretary-General Hossam Zaki said on Wednesday in the Algerian capital, according to the Algeria Press Service (APS) news agency.

"The situation of the Palestinian issue has not changed. It will remain the focus of the Arab League," he said, referring to the agenda of the upcoming summit meeting. Zaki stressed "the need to find a way to support the Palestinian brothers in their struggle to establish an independent Palestinian state."

The next Arab League summit is to be held in Algeria. The exact date will be announced during a meeting of Arab foreign ministers to be held in Cairo on March 9.

The deputy secretary-general also expressed the hope Wednesday that the upcoming summit "will restore Arab unity, solidarity and mutual assistance at a time when the region is experiencing multiple crises."
