Bogdanov and Arab League Secretary-General discussed cooperation development with Russia

Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed with Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit the strengthening of cooperation between Russia and the League in the context of resolving the ongoing crisis situations in the Middle East and North Africa and strengthening security in the region on March 19.


"In the course of a detailed confidential conversation, the problems of strengthening cooperation between Russia and the Arab League in the interests of resolving crisis situations in the Middle East and North Africa and strengthening security and stability in this strategically important region were discussed," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Monday.


The ministry also noted that the sides paid considerable attention to "issues of intensifying the work within the framework of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum."


The foreign ministry stressed that during the exchange of opinions on regional issues, the sides confirmed "common approaches of Russia and the League regarding ways of settling crisis situations in Libya, Syria and Yemen as well as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the well-known international legal basis, including relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, approved at the 2002 LAS summit."
