Defense Ministry evacuates more than 2,000 Russians and foreigners from Kazakhstan

Russian military transport aviation planes transported 2,095 citizens from Kazakhstan during the turmoil in the republic, the Defense Ministry said in a report.


"A total of 2,095 Russian and foreign citizens were transported from the Republic of Kazakhstan to Russia by aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Military and Space Forces (VKS). On January 11, military transport aircraft of the Russian Air Force delivered 376 Russian citizens from the Republic of Kazakhstan to Moscow," the report said.

 

 

According to the ministry, the evacuated Russian citizens arrived in Almaty for the New Year holidays on tourist trips, to stay with relatives. As a result of the worsening of the situation and the blocking of the international airport of Almaty, the Russian tourists have stayed in the hotels of the city. They appealed to the leadership of the Russian peacekeeping contingent for help in getting them to the territory of the Russian Federation.
