Immortal Regiment March in Bishkek to Be Held in Traditional Format

15 April

The Immortal Regiment march in Bishkek will take place in its usual format in 2025. This was announced at a press briefing in the Kyrgyz capital by Zulfiya Khaybullina, coordinator of the Immortal Regiment – Kyrgyzstan movement.

“The Immortal Regiment march will be held this year in the traditional format,” she said. According to Khaybullina, the event will take place not only in the capital but also in cities across the country.

The march on May 9, 2025, will begin at 9:00 AM local time (06:00 Moscow time) in the park named after Hero of the Soviet Union Dair Asanov and will conclude at Victory Square in the center of Bishkek. The Immortal Regiment has been held in cities across Kyrgyzstan since 2014. In 2024, the authorities canceled the event, citing the need to minimize “risks to public order and potential criminal activity in large gatherings.”

During the Great Patriotic War, from a population of about one million, Kyrgyzstan sent 360,000 people to the front lines; more than 100,000 of them died. For their courage and heroism, over 150,000 natives of the republic received military honors, 73 were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, and 22 became full holders of the Order of Glory. Hundreds of thousands of evacuees from Nazi-occupied territories of the USSR were also relocated to Kyrgyzstan during the war.
