Kabulov: no visits of Taliban and US special envoy on Afghanistan are planned to Moscow

24 January 2022

There are no plans for representatives of the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) or the US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West to visit Moscow after the Oslo inter-Afghan negotiations, Russian President's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Second Asia Department of the Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov told TASS on Monday.

"We don't plan to," he said in response to a related question.

A Taliban delegation led by Amir Khan Mottaki, Foreign Minister in the interim Afghan government they formed, arrived in Oslo on Saturday evening at the invitation of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry. The radicals are taking part in consultations with various Afghan social and political activists, as well as politicians in Norway and several other countries from January 23 to 25.

Earlier, West said on his Twitter page that he had arrived in Oslo. He welcomed Norway's initiative and promised to continue "clear diplomacy" with the Taliban to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
