Kyrgyzstan plans to continue developing renewable energy and tackling environmental issues as part of its cooperation with the United Nations. This was affirmed by the country's Foreign Minister, Jeenbek Kulubaev, during a meeting in New York with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kulubaev expressed support for the UN’s efforts to maintain international peace and security, as well as its work addressing global socio-economic and climate challenges.
During the meeting, Kulubaev reiterated Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and outlined the country’s key priorities, which include promoting the mountain agenda, expanding the green economy, and strengthening environmental protections. He also appealed for continued UN support in advancing these issues internationally.
Kulubaev briefed Guterres on political reforms taking place in Central Asia and on the joint efforts by regional nations to promote peace and stability.
While in New York, the Kyrgyz minister also held talks with representatives of landlocked developing countries and members of the African Union. In those meetings, he highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy priorities, developments in the Central Asian region, and the nation’s dedication to international cooperation, sustainable development, and regional integration.
