The decisions taken at the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) contribute to the implementation of Russia's proposals for ensuring collective security in the region. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this on Thursday at a press conference following talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

"Russia <...> has for many years promoted the concept of ensuring collective security in this region (in the Persian Gulf - TASS). The decisions made at the summit undoubtedly contribute to the positive development of the situation in the region," he said.

Lavrov added that the Russian side positively assesses the results of the summit of the Arabian monarchies. "As for restoring the unity of the GCC, I think that all members of this association deserve support," he said.

The Russian Foreign Minister noted that Saudi Arabia played a special role in this process by inviting representatives of council countries to its territory. "Of course, this (holding a summit in Saudi Arabia - TASS) is an important step on the way to stabilization in the Gulf region," Lavrov stressed.

On January 5, Saudi Arabia hosted the 41st GCC summit. The main result of the summit was the agreement on the termination of all disagreements with Qatar, restoration of full diplomatic relations, resumption of air links and lifting of the blockade. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry also put his signature under the document.
