Russia considers Egypt's assessments of affairs in the Middle East and Africa important, including conflict resolution and the promotion of cooperation in various formats. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday as he opened talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

"Your assessments, considerations on approaches to affairs in the Middle East, the African continent, including conflict resolution, promotion of cooperation in various formats are always very valuable for us," he said. Russia, according to the minister, appreciates "Egypt's traditionally responsible and balanced position on the most regional, international problems and the country's desire to seek political agreements on any crises and conflicts." "Egypt is our good friend, a reliable partner not only in the Middle East, but also in international affairs in general," he added.

Lavrov said he expects to discuss with his Egyptian counterpart "bilateral relations, tasks for their further development in the current conditions that have emerged in the international economy and finances." "I hope to discuss our interaction in the UN, which, like the whole world is living through difficult times in connection with attempts to impose on the international community instead of the principles of the UN Charter some rules that no one has seen, but which the West wants everyone to be guided by," added the head of the Russian foreign ministry.

The minister also said that in August the countries will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. "We will agree on plans that will allow us to celebrate this event worthily," Lavrov concluded.
