15 June 2021

Friday prayers in Moscow mosques have not been canceled and the daily five-time prayers at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque are held in compliance with anti-pandemic measures, Deputy Chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation and Moscow Mufti Ildar Alyautdinov told RIA Novosti.

"In the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, the daily five-time prayer is held with strict compliance with all necessary measures - the distance, masks, gloves. But for now, everything remains unchanged on Friday: no decision has been made in this regard that Friday prayers will not be held," Alyautdinov said.

The employees of the organization are working remotely, except for imams who conduct rituals and prayers. The Mufti added that there were also no instructions from the Moscow authorities regarding Friday prayers.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin signed a decree stipulating that days off from June 15 to 19 with pay to halt the growth of the coronavirus disease. In addition, due to the epidemiological situation since June 13, employers are advised to transfer at least 30% of employees to remote work, as well as all workers over 65 years old and with chronic diseases, except those who have been vaccinated, to take measures to minimize the presence of employees in person and provide measures to stimulate vaccination.
