Pushkov ridiculed the refusal of Lukashenko's "friends" to recognize him as President

24 September 2020

Senator Alexey Pushkov commented on the refusal of a number of countries to recognize Alexander Lukashenko as the legally elected President of Belarus.

Pushkov noted that Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland were recently among the "best friends" of the Belarusian leader. The Senator also pointed out that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo "exuded smiles and promises" in Minsk in February.

"With such "friends", enemies are definitely not needed," Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.

He added that this development of events was obvious and predictable, but the Belarusian President could not deny himself the desire to "play a multi-vector game".

"However, for the West, the games with Lukashenko are over. The game went big. Belarus is at stake," the Senator concluded.

The day before, Lukashenko took office as President of the Republic, this is his sixth term. According to the CEC, he won 80.1% of the vote in the election.
