Putin expressed condolences in connection with the death of the UAE President

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences on Friday in connection with the death of UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Kremlin press service reported.

 

It is noted that the Russian leader sent corresponding telegrams to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Emirate.


"In the telegrams Vladimir Putin, in particular, noted that Sheikh Khalifa is associated with a very important period in the history of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates as a whole, marked by impressive successes in economic, social and scientific and technological development," the message said.

 

 

Separately, Putin noted Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's contribution to strengthening the UAE's relations with Russia. "Sheikh Khalifa did much to strengthen friendly relations and constructive cooperation between our countries," the press service quotes the text of the condolence telegram.


The Russian president conveyed words of sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased, as well as to all the people of the United Arab Emirates, the message reads.


As it became known earlier on Friday, the president of the UAE died at the age of 73 after a long illness. The country declared national mourning, which will act for 40 days, all this time will be at half-staff state flags. For three days all ministries, public institutions and private enterprises are closed.
